BBC Asian Network controversies
In 2004, BBC Asian Network faced criticism from some listeners and community groups for playing music that contained lyrics that were deemed to be derogatory towards women. The station responded to these criticisms by introducing a music policy that prohibited the playing of songs that contained such lyrics. In 2017, the station faced controversy after one of its presenters, Tommy Sandhu, was accused of asking a female guest to unbutton her trousers during a live broadcast. The presenter was subsequently suspended from the station and issued an apology.
